missions

Each year we engage in short term missions experiences as a Senior High group & Junior High Group. This sometimes comes as week long experiences during the summer months, we will also engage in daily missions in and around the Hendersonville & Nashville metro area.

Senior High Mission Experience

The tradition for the Senior High Mission has been to support the people of the appalachian mountains through ASP (Appalachian Service Project). This past summer, due to the extreme levels of destruction to the gulf region from Hurricane Katrina. The youth felt a need to respond. We felt our years of missions helped to prepare us for this past summer that we are going back one more summer and beginning a rotation system to our destinations for our various missions experiences.

Junior High Mission Experience

With the tradition of a Junior High Experience beginning in 2006 we had a great time working with S.O.S (Service Over Self) in urban Memphis. We will move the Junior High Mission Experience around with a similar rotation system as our Seniors Highs to give a balanced and rounded missional perspective.

Senior High Mission Experience 2009

For our summer of 2009 we will be heading to the Bahamas to work with Bahamas Methodist Habitat. We will be looking to fill a group of 40-50 youth, young adults, and adults to help with the areas that are still working themselves back from past hurricanes and recent ones from this past summer. Dates are  May 31st - June 6th.

Our First Initial Meeting is set for November 9th @ 6:45pm. Right after Drive Groups should be wrapping up. The meeting should only be 45 minutes, make plans to be there.

The cost for missions experience this summer is still being determined. We expect a full cost will be around $900 per person. We hope with work though the pumpkin patch, story telling event, and a spring fund raiser to curb that cost. This covers registration, plane flight, food, and tools. You will want to bring extra money for food on the road and a souvenir or two.

Junior High Mission Experience 2009

In our fourth ever Jr. High Mission Experience we will again work through the mininstry of Camp Lookout. Camp Lookout is based on Lookout Mountain and is part of the Holston Conference of the United Methodist Church camping program. We will participate in their Junior High Service Camp which is a mix of service work to the camp, service to the homeless, helping the community churches, aiding the widows in the community, and all the fun that can happen at camp (swimming, creek stomping, caving, etc).

Our dates for the 2009 trip will be from June 1st - 5th. We will leave the church parking lot approximately at 6:00am on Monday the 1st and return around 2:00pm on Friday the 5th.

Cost will be $200 dollars which includes your meals and activities while at camp. You will need to bring some money for food on the road & some camp memorabilia.

Deposit & Paperwork will be due at a future determined date. See FAQ sheets for more information.

Senior Mission Experience 2009

We will be taking on our first out of country missions excursion to Eleuthera Bahamas. We are working with Bahamas Methodist Habitat under the direction of Abe, a fellow middle tennessean. He has been working with BHM for about three or four years (depending on when you read this). Our dates will be May 31st - June 6th. This is Wednesday to Tuesday, which allows for a less expensive flight than flying on a weekend. Things may change, but we will most likely be staying at a methodist retreat center in James Cistern.

Each participant will need to have a current passport in order to participate. So go ahead and apply now. Passports cannot be aquired at the last minute. The cost for the trip will be around $900 (final price will depend largely on the plane tickets). If you wish you may start to deposit money for small payments for your participant fees at the beginning of July. Look for a scheduled paperwork and training sessions in the fall.
